Attendance was lower than usual, as some race teams had suffered some mechanical breakage the month before, and others were simply holding out for the upcoming SDBA/NJBA Drag Boat Nationals event in November. Approximately seventy boats traveled to Bakersfield, and the competition was certainly no less fierce than normal, especially in the Pro Comp Flat class, which hosted a really tough eighteen-boat field, and even in the classes that featured fewer race teams, there were some very tight races, making for some exciting race action.
